- Ram finally answers the call of buyers who want a diesel in a half-ton truck
- One of the best rides of any pickup, thanks to unique coil spring rear suspension
- Super-quiet, super-roomy crew cab
- Optional Uconnect infotainment touch screen is one of the best in the business
- Unique to offer air suspension in this segment
Ride comfort: The Ram is arguably the most comfortable-riding pickup on the market. Ride motions are gradual and controlled, and impacts are well-muted over bumps large and small. Other than a faint rubbery jiggle there are no disturbances and none of the snappy motions typical of pickup trucks. Highway cruising feels relaxed. Rams with the optional air suspension also ride well, and do an excellent job of filtering out rough pavement such as railroad crossings.
Â
Noise: This truck may be Ram-tough, but it's the strong, silent type. It's as tranquil inside as the impressive Chrysler 300. Even its stocky body and elephant-ear mirrors transmit little wind noise inside, and road noise is next to nonexistent. The eight-speed transmission keeps engine noise at bay on the highway, yet allows a symphonic V8 rumble any time you prod the throttle.
Â
Seat comfort: The backseats are perhaps the best in the house. The Crew Cab has lots and lots of rear-seat leg room. Posture is good and the cushions are supportive. The rear seat is also very wide, so even three average-sized adults can fit back there without touching at all. The center seat is short on thigh support, though, a minor gripe.
Â
Pickup bed/rear storage: The rear of the Crew Cab is great not only for hauling people; it can also keep cargo secure and dry. Rear doors open wide help with loading and unloading. A wide shallow center tunnel separates two footwells in the rear. But each footwell is flat and offers ample room for storage. The rear seat bottom lifts up for storage if you need more space front to back. However, the area under the seat cushion isn't flat with the rear floor; it steps up and houses covered storage bins. The rear seat is split 60/40, aiding cargo/people carrying flexibility.
